Kraftfahrzeug- und Technik-Museum Cunewalde
Volunteer-run vehicle museum in a three-sided farmstead in Cunewalde with cars and motorcycles from the prewar and GDR eras.
About the museum
The museum's roots go back to the GDR: in 1967 a group dedicated to historic motor vehicles formed within the Löbau motor club and two years later held its first veteran rally. In 1993 eight vehicle enthusiasts, including former members of this group, re-founded the Oberlausitzer Kfz.-Veteranen Club.
In 1999 the municipality of Cunewalde offered the club a freshly restored three-sided farmstead next to the "Blaue Kugel" information center. The following year the club opened the Motor Vehicle and Technology Museum in the farm's large barn, which has since been run exclusively by volunteers.
On around 450 square meters and three floors, about 70 exhibits can be seen. The second floor shows prewar vehicles in a recreated street scene, the attic floor shows two-wheelers and cars from GDR production. On the first floor, engines recall the former Cunewalde engine works, complemented by historic lamps, GDR toys and documentation on the 2010 flood.
