Krippenmuseum Baunach

Nativity scene collection of former Würzburg cathedral canon Jürgen Lenssen in the late Gothic ossuary behind Baunach's parish church, open during Advent and the Christmas season.

Opening hoursAdmission €3.50

About the museum

The museum is housed in a small half-timbered building from 1543 behind the parish church of Baunach. The building formerly served as an ossuary and cemetery chapel; for the museum it was extended with a modern glazed entrance building.

The core of the museum is the nativity collection of cathedral canon Jürgen Lenssen, from which around 150 depictions of the Christmas story are on display. Because the collection is considerably larger than the exhibition space, the selection is changed regularly, so a second visit is also worthwhile. In the vaulted cellar, changing presentations can also be seen, for example by nativity enthusiasts and craftspeople from the region.

The museum opens during Advent and the Christmas season. In addition to the regular opening hours, there are guided tours, a museum rally for children, craft activities for families and evening events, for instance during the Baunach Christmas market.
