About the museum
Christian Adalbert Kupferberg founded the sparkling wine cellar in Mainz in 1850; it grew into a brand known worldwide. On the grounds at Kupferbergterrasse lie the sparkling wine cellars, once the deepest multi-level cellars in the world, which extend over several levels into the hill.
The Kupferberg Museum presents the history of sparkling wine and culture: historic sparkling wine and champagne glasses, advertising graphics and an Art Nouveau pavilion. During the tour, visitors learn what Otto von Bismarck and the first World's Fair in Paris have to do with the house.
Today the company Eulchen GmbH operates the site as a tavern and event venue. The museum and the historic vaulted cellars are accessible as part of the sparkling wine cellar tour (with a glass of sparkling wine); private tours are offered for groups.
