Landschafts-Informationszentrum
Interactive exhibition on landscape, the Möhne Dam, water and forest in the former Günner Mühle on the Möhnesee.
About the museum
The Landschaftsinformationszentrum Wasser und Wald, Liz for short, is located below the dam wall of the Möhne reservoir in the district of Günne. It is housed in the historic Günner Mühle, which was restored with funds from the municipality of Möhnesee and the NRW-Stiftung. A dam museum was originally planned there; from this developed the idea of a center where people of all ages can explore the nature of the region.
A sponsoring association was founded for this purpose in 1992. At the end of 1993 the biologist Kerstin Heim-Zülsdorf took over the development with the support of volunteers from the Heimatverein (local heritage society), and in June 1994 the Liz opened to visitors for the first time. Alongside the permanent exhibition, an environmental education program was developed for children, school classes, families and adults.
The interactive exhibition, spread over around 250 square meters on three floors, features the experience rooms Landscape and Dam, Water, and Forest. A film with original footage recalls the destruction of the dam wall in 1943. A natural area with a pond belongs to the house. Today the Liz is also a regional center for education for sustainable development and sends an environmental mobile to schools and daycare centers in the surrounding area.
