About the museum

The museum was founded in 1990 by Leonhard Speer, known in the area as "Lanz-Leo", together with Edeltraud Heller. Speer had collected agricultural machinery for decades, at first in nearby Nöham, before the collection moved to the property in Mitterrohrbach near Rimbach in Lower Bavaria.

At the center are the Bulldog tractors of Heinrich Lanz AG of Mannheim, alongside steam engines from 1882 to 1955, stationary engines and threshing technology. Among the best-known pieces are Speer's first Bulldog, a Lanz from 1937 that came from the Stauffenberg family's estate and was used for a trip to Italy, and a stationary steam engine from 1938 with around 500 hp. The yard also has a boiler house with a built-in steam engine, a workshop and a storeroom to visit; the museum includes a Bierstüberl (small beer pub). The collection is regarded as one of the most important private collections of its kind in Germany.

Since the opening, Speer invited people to a yard festival on the museum grounds every year, which grew into a large gathering of vintage vehicle fans; the 20th edition in 2010 drew several thousand guests. After Speer's death in March 2016, his widow initially continued to run the museum, and since 2019 his son Stefan Speer has looked after it. The collection can be visited by phone appointment.
