About the museum
Between 1994 and 1997, the Stadtverband Nürnberg der Kleingärtner (Nuremberg allotment gardeners' association) saved several historic huts dating from 1920 onward from demolition and rebuilt them faithfully in the Karwendelstraße allotment garden complex. The seven restored huts form the heart of the museum; their interiors are furnished to show life in an allotment garden in the past century.
The museum opened on May 9, 1998; its initiator was then chairman Hans Eschbach. After the huts were repainted in their original colors in 2010 and 2011, larger renovation work became necessary in 2018. The operator is the Stadtverband Nürnberg der Kleingärtner e. V.
