About the museum
The museum goes back to the private collecting passion of Wolfgang and Vera Günther, who built up an extensive collection out of their enthusiasm for the comedy duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. From about 1990 they displayed it in a second apartment in Solingen.
When they were given notice on their apartment and museum rooms in 2001, the exhibits first had to be packed away. In 2003 the city of Solingen finally provided rooms in the listed Walder Kotten, a building from Solingen's early industrial period, where the museum reopened on about 60 square meters.
The museum shows film posters, photos, programs, press material, sculptures and private documents of the two artists. The focus is on the films, from which visitors can put together their own program. The museum is run on a non-profit basis; voluntary donations are requested.
