About the museum
The model railway museum in Muggendorf opened in June 1994. Since then its collection of tinplate trains has steadily grown. Its focus is the rare Spur S (S gauge), which was built until the early 1960s by the firm BUB in Nuremberg and by VEB Stadtilm in Thuringia in the GDR. According to the museum, it is the largest publicly accessible collection of S gauge vehicles in Germany.
A second focus is models in gauge 0 from old Nuremberg manufacturers such as Bing, Kraus-Fandor, BUB, Wimmer, Distler, Dressler, Beckh and Fleischmann. Particularly notable are the true-to-original, working S gauge layouts by BUB and from Stadtilm. There is also an accessible LGB garden railway layout; original parts from the real railway complete the collection.
