About the museum

The city history collection was founded as early as 1889 by committed citizens of Mölln. Since 1993 it has been housed in the Historic Town Hall on the market square.

The building dates from 1373 and is considered the second-oldest town hall in Schleswig-Holstein. The exhibition shows scenes from everyday life between 1750 and 1950.

Particularly worth seeing are the council silver in the Ratsdiele (the council hall), the goblets of the guilds and trades, and embroidered sampler cloths more than 100 years old. A multimedia presentation is devoted to the historic waterways Stecknitz and Elbe-Lübeck Canal and to the “White Gold,” salt. The house also offers special exhibitions, readings, and concerts.
