About the museum
The Montblanc Haus opened in June 2022 at the Hamburg headquarters of the writing instrument maker, where the company has been based on Hellgrundweg in Lurup since 1989. The idea was to make writing experienceable as a cultural act and to show the craft roots of the brand. The building has a clear, modern design language; the roughly 3,600 square meters of exhibition space are spread across three floors.
The centerpiece is the permanent exhibition INSPIRE WRITING. It tells the company’s story, shows writing instruments from several decades and original handwritten pages by well-known personalities, and lets visitors pick up a pen at writing stations. It is complemented by changing special exhibitions on the written word.
A special feature is the glimpse into production: writing instruments are made exclusively in Hamburg, in the only Montblanc manufactory that visitors may enter. There is also the Writing Atelier with calligraphy and hand-lettering courses, the Bistro 149, and a boutique, which can be visited without an exhibition ticket.
