About the museum

The museum's roots go back to 1984, when citizens of Eidelstedt founded a local history museum in the former Bürgerhaus (community center). Over 35 years, more than 7,500 objects were collected from private households, clubs and institutions, including paintings by the Eidelstedt painter August Koyen.

Because the community center was being rebuilt, the museum had to close in 2020; parts of the collection went into boxes or into temporary partial exhibitions at other places in the district. With the reopening of the renovated and expanded building under the name "steeedt", the Museum am Markt was created. It has operated under this name since 2022 and belongs to the Kulturhaus Eidelstedt.

On around 120 square meters in two rooms there is now a small district archive with books, texts, pictures and eyewitness accounts, as well as changing exhibitions. The collection includes everyday objects from the last hundred years from agriculture, crafts, trade, clothing, textiles and households, and also an old kitchen, a living room and a school corner. As a history workshop and meeting place, volunteers from the district keep the memory of Eidelstedt alive with special exhibitions, publications and events.
