About the museum

The foundation was laid by the motorcycle enthusiast Robert Stockmann, who himself took part in reliability trials with a Victoria sidecar rig. In the 1960s and 1970s he bought up numerous old motorcycles to save them from the scrapyard. When space ran short, he acquired the former school building in the Lehen farming community and opened his collection to the public in September 1978.

In 1992 the building was expanded. Today his son Reinhard Stockmann runs the privately operated museum, which is open from April to October on weekends and public holidays.

The exhibition spans from the penny-farthing of 1882 to a Paris-Dakar rally machine. On view are prewar machines such as a Zündapp KS 750 sidecar rig, rare postwar models, classics of the 1950s, light motorcycles and mopeds up to the late 1970s, as well as rarities such as a 1927 Diel with a water-cooled engine, a Wanderer with belt drive, a 1925 pacemaker machine, and the Münch Mammut 1200 TTS. Information panels, historic motorcycle clothing, and cutaway models complement the vehicles. Every year the museum is a stage destination of the Internationale Motorrad-Veteranen-Rallye.
