About the museum
The "Leerer Beutel" is a listed building from the 16th/17th century that originally served as a grain store. After a thorough renovation, it was handed over in 1980 as a municipal gallery building. Today it is a city cultural center that also houses event rooms, a restaurant, a jazz club and a cinema.
The Städtische Galerie shows art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Alongside changing exhibitions, a collection presents art from Eastern Bavaria: it includes paintings and graphic works by artists such as Josef Achmann, Kurt von Unruh, Xaver Fuhr, Otto Baumann and Willi Ulfig. For art after 1945, there are paintings and sculptures, including works from the circle of the SPUR group as well as from younger generations.
