About the museum
The museum goes back to the collecting passion of Bamberg merchant Artur Kutz (1925–2008) and his wife Rosemarie. Since the 1950s, the couple ran a shop for office supplies and later an office centre, which from 1974 was housed at Am Kranen 12a. In the early 1970s, Artur Kutz began collecting old office equipment such as typewriters and calculators.
Over more than thirty years, this grew into a collection of over 3,000 objects, including rare pieces such as an original Enigma and a replica of the first typewriter. After the founder's death, the private museum was initially run by his son Martin Kutz.
In display cases and on panels, the exhibition traces the development of writing, printing, drawing and measuring, through to communication technology: from cuneiform and Morse apparatus to the typewriter and computer, and on to the first mobile phone and space travel.
