About the museum
The house was built directly after the town fire of 1810 and is listed for its well-preserved fabric. Locally, it is known after its former owners as the “Schwartz’sches Haus”. The town of Beerfelden bought it in 1988 and in 1992 made it available as a museum to the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Oberzent (local heritage and history association). Its location in the town centre, right next to the historic Zwölfröhrenbrunnen (twelve-spout fountain), is considered ideal.
The association runs the museum largely on its own; volunteer members keep it open and lead the guided tours. On display are everyday objects and evidence of crafts and agriculture: a fully furnished general store from around 1900, a shoemaker's and saddler's workshop, a kitchen with household items, information on textile production, diamond cutting and tanning bark (Gerberlohe), and costumes in the "Gud Stub". A photo documentation recalls the "Schellekattel", the former railway between Beerfelden and Hetzbach, and the cellar shows how food was stored in earlier times.
The outdoor area features sandstone objects, a replica of a bloomery furnace (Rennofen), a Säulengöbel and a barn with agricultural and forestry tools.
