Museum für Rheinbreitbacher Alltagsgeschichte

The volunteer-run local history museum in Rheinbreitbach shows domestic life, crafts and mining in a vintner's house from 1650.

About the museum

The museum is housed in a vintner's house from 1650 on Hauptstraße, which once served as a tannery, wine merchant's shop and municipal office, among other uses. Since 1997 the Heimatverein Rheinbreitbach (local heritage association) has restored the building through volunteer work and developed it into a museum.

Spread across more than ten rooms, the exhibition shows life in the village from the late 19th to the mid-20th century: the best room around 1870, the kitchen around 1900, a laundry room, a children's room and a schoolroom around 1950. Craft workshops, for example for shoemakers, tailors and wheelwrights, complement the living quarters.

A separate room commemorates the mining in Rheinbreitbach, which spans more than a thousand years. The museum also includes an archive of historical documents and photographs of the village, which can be viewed on request.
