About the museum
The Museum für Weinkultur (museum of wine culture) opened in May 1986 in Deidesheim's historic town hall, one of the important Renaissance buildings in the Palatinate. It documents humanity's relationship with wine and viticulture from antiquity to the present.
Across three floors the exhibition shows wine chalices, amphorae and everyday objects. Life-size figure groups depict the work of winegrowers, coopers and wine inspectors around 1900, and another room recreates the living kitchen of a winegrowing family in the 19th century.
Other themes include wine's influence on religion, medicine, art, economy and politics. In the museum you can taste and buy the museum wine from the Promi-Weinberg (celebrity vineyard).
