About the museum
The Weinbaumuseum is set up in the grain store and tithe cellar of the historic Herrenhof in Neustadt-Mußbach. The Herrenhof, once owned by the Order of St John, became property of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1970 after an eventful history; after 1983 it was expanded into a cultural center by the Fördergemeinschaft Herrenhof.
On the raised ground floor of the grain store, every stage of the winegrower's work can be traced, from laying out a vineyard to harvest and pressing. Most of the machines and tools date from the early 19th to the mid-20th century. In the tithe cellar, the focus is on cellar management with half-Stück, Stück and multi-Stück casks, as well as tools of wine and wood coopers.
In the park stands the Neustadt wine press of 1741 with a wooden screw. In the Johanniter garden, demonstration vine plantings, from the old wooden frame to the modern trellis, show how Palatinate winegrowing developed.
