About the museum
The Vordere Schloss in the upper town of Mühlheim was for a long time the seat of the lords of Enzberg, who had been based here since 1409. In 1987 the building came into the town's possession; the town had it restored in keeping with its historic character and then set it up as a museum and cultural venue.
Since 2012 the house has formed the Museum Oberes Donautal together with the Museum im Ifflinger Schloss in Fridingen. The permanent exhibition has four sections: town and lordship history, church history and popular piety, the Marian pilgrimage to the Welschenberg begun in 1649, and the painter Josef Alfons Wirth (1887–1916), who was born in Mühlheim.
On the attic floor the Heimatverein Mühlheim (local heritage association) shows its own exhibitions on local history; since 2017 a collection of minerals and fossils has been on display in the basement.
