About the museum
The Tuttlinger Haus was created as a museum as part of the town's 1200th anniversary celebrations and opened in 1997. Restoring the well-preserved citizen-farmer's house on Donaustraße was possible only thanks to strong support from the public.
The building was erected after the great town fire of November 1, 1803, and provided space for two families who had previously not lived under one roof. It has all the features of the houses built after the fire: the unaltered hipped roof, the “Tuttlinger Hut” (a roof structure), an internal hoist shaft, and the division into separately owned floors. From the cellar to the attic, visitors can trace the earlier life in the house.
The exhibition tells Tuttlingen's town history through the example of its former residents. On display are, among other things, a town model, a wheelwright's workshop, living situations, and objects relating to rule, the townscape, life stages, club culture and immigration. In the roof, an unobstructed view into the “Tuttlinger Hut” and the “Obertenloch” shows the construction method.
