About the museum
Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen lived and worked with his family in today's Raiffeisenhaus from 1848 to 1852, when he was mayor of the Flammersfeld administrative district. Here, in 1849, he founded the first loan association, which is regarded as the origin of modern cooperatives.
The museum informs visitors about his work for the rural population and about the worldwide influence of the cooperative idea. Volunteer Raiffeisen ambassadors lead visitors through the house and bring life in Raiffeisen's time to life using original relics.
