About the museum
The museum "Bi et fröher wor" (How It Used to Be) opened in 1991 in an old half-timbered house next to the municipal library in Neustadt (Wied). It shows how the people of the municipality lived in earlier times, a meager life shaped by farming and mining.
On display are a furnished kitchen, a parlor serving as living and dining room, a sleeping chamber, and the local heritage archive with old documents, books, and photos. The former cowshed now houses farm tools and gives insight into the working life of earlier generations. Over the years many items have been added, and the collection now comprises several hundred objects from the region.
