Participatory double exhibition by the Internationale Jugendbibliothek in Munich: stations to play and craft for children, and fairy-tale illustrations from editions in 13 countries for adults.
Margrave George the Pious had the castle built from 1535 as a hunting lodge. It takes its name from the Silesian duchy of Ratibor, whose revenues paid for the construction. After the margraviate line ended in 1791, the area passed to Prussia, and the castle went to the ribbon manufacturer Johann Philipp Stieber, who used parts of it as production rooms.
Around 1892 Wilhelm Stieber reclaimed the main building for residential purposes and had it redesigned in historical styles by well-known artists and companies. This created sumptuous interiors in the style of the Renaissance and Baroque, which reflect the prosperity of the industrialist family. His widow Minna gave the castle to the town of Roth in 1942.
In 1953 the city museum moved into the rooms. After several years of closure and renovation, it reopened in 1985 as Museum Schloss Ratibor. Today the second floor presents the town and district history in twelve rooms, including a significant collection of Franconian ceramics, while the first floor holds the state hall and large salons of the Stieber family. They are considered one of the few completely preserved examples of historical residential culture in Bavaria.
