About the museum
The Hilpoltstein town museum is located in the rear building of the brewery inn "Schwarzes Roß". The property preserves remains of one of Bavaria's oldest breweries, including a malt house and beer cellars.
Visitors can see a preserved section of the defensive walkway of the town fortifications and a cellar labyrinth from the Romanesque period. The collections show the history of Hilpoltstein and tools of old building trades, such as carpenters and stonemasons; there is also a model of the castle.
Particularly valuable are figures and green-glazed tiles from a Mount of Olives (Ölberg) group created around 1450. The museum is currently closed for renovation work.
