About the museum

The foundation of the museum was laid by the Knittlingen entrepreneur Walter Pfitzenmeier (born 1931), who began collecting old vehicles and equipment after retiring in 1996. The passion grew into a private museum that at first was only occasionally open to visitors.

To secure the collection permanently, the nonprofit association Museum Walters Oldtimer Knittlingen e.V. was founded in August 2016; it has since expanded the sponsorship and organizes museum operations. Since 2017 the museum has opened regularly on Saturdays during the season. After the collector's death in 2020, the association continues the museum in his spirit.

On roughly 4,000 square meters, more than 260 vehicles can be seen: passenger cars mostly from German manufacturers from the 1930s to the 1970s, small cars such as the Goggomobil, Isetta, or Zündapp Janus, numerous motorcycles, and a large number of tractors. In addition there are agricultural machines, historic tools, musical instruments, and everyday objects that tell of village life. The association also organizes open house days, drives, and other events at the museum.
