About the museum
The museum house was built in 1886 as the residence of Wilhelm Lüring, co-owner of the Wentz mechanical linen weaving mill founded in 1874 in Wustrow. The Berlin architect Otto Willrich used historicist stylistic elements on the façade and in the interior. When the museum association took over the house in 1981, the elaborate wall paintings were no longer visible; stencil paintings in the stairwell and in parts of the former living quarters were later uncovered and restored.
The Museumsverein Wustrow e. V. (registered association) was founded on February 2, 1977. It researches the social, economic, everyday, technical and contemporary history of the Lüchow-Dannenberg district from the 19th to the 21st century and, with its nearly 160 members, has developed more than one hundred temporary exhibitions as well as numerous publications. Since 1984 the house has also shown art exhibitions by regional artists.
Permanently on display on the upper floor is the exhibition "Warenwelten", with a colonial goods shop, a haberdashery and a GDR Konsum store. The museum also maintains the NS-Wendland archive and is the starting point of the industrial history trail "Kali und Leinen" with 22 stations in and around Wustrow.
