Museumsmühle Hasbergen
Historic water mill on the Delme in Delmenhorst-Hasbergen with functioning milling technology and collections on the milling trade, scales, and weights.
About the museum
The water mill on the Delme in the Delmenhorst district of Hasbergen has been documented in writing since about 1450. In the 16th century it burned down during military conflicts over the County of Delmenhorst and was rebuilt. For a long time an undershot water wheel drove the millstones; after a flood in 1939 damaged the wheel and the dam, a turbine took over the drive from 1950 until milling operations ended in 1986.
After restoration, the building opened as a museum mill in 1991. Since then, the Dörfergemeinschaft Hasbergen (village community) has looked after the building and collection as volunteers. The ensemble includes the mill with its fully preserved equipment, an annex with exhibition rooms, an outbuilding, and the dam in the outdoor area.
The tour explains the history of the mill, the miller's trade, and the path from the water wheel to the turbine; numerous tools and devices illustrate the work of the past. In addition there is a collection of hand mills and grain measures and, since 1998, an extensive collection of scales and weights, which is now shown in an expanded exhibition on measuring and weighing.
