About the museum

The Nationalpark-Haus Museum Fedderwardersiel by the harbor of Fedderwardersiel is the information center of Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park (Nationalpark Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer) in Butjadingen and also a museum of the coastal region. It is run on behalf of the municipality by the Förderkreis Museum Butjadingen e.V., a support association with more than 170 members.

The permanent exhibition "Leben im Wechsel der Gezeiten" presents the water, land and air worlds of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site across three floors. Multimedia stations, models, dioramas and historical objects link them together. The introductory room with an aquarium holds up to 20 North Sea species; the Landgang section tells the story of a fishing family, the former harbor and how the coast formed, and the upper floor covers migratory birds and salt marshes.

Around 30 people work in the house: staff, volunteers, participants in the Ecological Year (Ökologisches Jahr), and guest and national park guides. The program includes guided tours and events about the Wadden Sea, group offers and the Junior Ranger program. Operations are funded by the State of Lower Saxony, the Wesermarsch district and, since 2023, the guest card issued by the municipality of Butjadingen.
