About the museum

The Nationalparkzentrum Falkenstein is a visitor facility of the Bavarian Forest National Park administration in Ludwigsthal.

The centerpiece is the Haus zur Wildnis, which shows the dynamic development of the forests in the national park. Visitors walk through a broadleaf tree, enter an underground root passage to discover hidden soil processes, watch films in the 3D cinema, and experience the sounds of the forest at night in the Nachtraum (night room).

The adjoining outdoor animal enclosure is home to lynx, wolves, wild horses and Urrinder (aurochs-type cattle), among others. The Stone Age cave, with an artificial rock backdrop, tells of the changes in climate, landscape and wildlife since the Old Stone Age. The Haus zur Wildnis was checked for accessibility by "Reisen für Alle".
