About the museum
The Naturparkzentrum Prümer Land is an institution of the town of Prüm. The exhibition is looked after by the association Naturpark Nordeifel, which also runs its office for the Rhineland-Palatinate part of the German-Belgian Hohes Venn-Eifel Nature Park from the same building. Until 2018 it was called "Informationsstätte Mensch und Natur."
In 2001 the house was recognized by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as an environmental education facility close to schools; since 2019 this recognition has carried the name "LernOrt Nachhaltigkeit" (Sustainability Learning Site). The center is therefore officially a learning site for education for sustainable development.
The exhibition is organized into three themes. A journey through Earth's history shows an extensive fossil collection from the Devonian rocks of the Prüm syncline; under the microscope even the smallest fossils can be viewed. A forest diorama with native animals, stations for experiencing the forest with all the senses, and information on forest damage address the forest habitat. In addition there are wetland habitats such as low-mountain streams, ponds and the Schneifel moors. A seminar room and a student research center complement the offer, and trails in the surrounding area lead out into the landscape.
