About the museum

In 1953, at the national meeting of East Prussians, Bochum took on the patronage of the district of Neidenburg, the southernmost district of East Prussia. In 1961 the first permanent exhibition on the patron district opened in Haus Kemnade.

Today the Heimatstube of the Neidenburg district community is located in the former district office (Amtshaus) in Werne, a district of Bochum. It comprises four rooms.

The collection includes documents, literature, paintings and views of the homeland, around 3,000 photographs, some 700 books and the Neidenburger Kreisblätter (district newspapers) from 1892 to 1945. Models of Neidenburg Castle and town illustrate the home region. Well-known figures from the district are commemorated, including the historian Ferdinand Gregorovius, the composer Walter Kollo, the railway entrepreneur Bethel Henry Strousberg and the painter Robert Budzinski.
