Neuer Aachener Kunstverein
Art association in the Aachen Stadtpark with changing exhibitions of international contemporary art, founded in 1986.
About the museum
The Neuer Aachener Kunstverein was founded in 1986 – a good two decades after the Fluxus festival at the Aachen Technical University in 1964, which the association still cites as an inspiration. With several hundred members, it is one of the younger art associations in Germany and sees itself as an independent venue for experiments in contemporary art.
Since 2001, the NAK has used the former building of the parks department in the Stadtpark, which was converted for exhibition work. Its neighbors are the Carolus Thermen, the casino and the Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst.
The program combines international positions with the regional context. Artists shown here early on include Hans-Peter Feldmann, Bruce Nauman, Candida Höfer, Gerhard Richter and Wolfgang Tillmans. In 2000, the art association received the ART FRANKFURT PREIS. In addition to exhibitions, the NAK publishes annual editions and publications; it has no collection of its own.
