Orgelmuseum Fleiter
Small company museum of the Münster organ-building workshop Fleiter in Nienberge with historic organs – visits by appointment only.
About the museum
The Fleiter organ-building workshop is one of the most long-established businesses of its kind in Westphalia. Friedrich Fleiter founded it in 1872 on the Horsteberg in Münster; under his successors it grew at times to 40 employees. After the workshops were destroyed in World War II, the family rebuilt the business, which is now based in the Nienberge district and continues as Orgelbau Fleiter oHG. Over time, well over a thousand pipe organs have come out of its workshops.
A dedicated museum building was constructed at the company's premises in 1983 and opened in 1984. Its centerpiece is an organ built by the company founder in the late 19th century, which comes from a church in the Münsterland region and was restored for the museum. The collection also includes a replica of an ancient water organ, a Chinese mouth organ (sheng), and a Wurlitzer cinema organ from the 1920s. Visits are only possible by arrangement with the business.
