About the museum
The Phänomenta Bremerhaven has been run since 1996 by the non-profit association PHÄNOMENTA Bremerhaven e.V. Since 2003, the hands-on exhibition has been housed in a former spice warehouse on Hoebelstraße, in the "Schaufenster Fischereihafen" (Fishing Harbor showcase).
The concept focuses on playing and learning: science, mathematics and technology are meant to be grasped in the most literal sense. Around 80 stations invite visitors to touch and try things out, for example in optics, acoustics, mechanics and geometry. Chemical phenomena are covered in the children's chemistry lab, and some stations show biological connections.
In 2017, the "Werkstatt für Alle" (workshop for everyone) added a craft offer in which children mainly work with wood. A special feature is the "Reise in die Tiefe der Erde" (Journey into the Depths of the Earth): an elevator simulation leads into a walk-in earth cave with geophysical phenomena. The house is complemented by workshops, a mobile planetarium, robotics courses and the Erfinderclub (inventors' club).
