About the museum
The Schulhistorische Sammlung Bremerhaven was founded in 1985 and is devoted to the history of schooling in general and in Bremerhaven in particular. It is housed in the Fichteschule in the Wulsdorf district. A Förderverein (friends' association) looks after the care and expansion of the holdings.
The collection traces schooling back to the 19th century and awakens memories of one's own school days as well as those of grandparents and great-grandparents. On display are a historic classroom with a teacher's desk and slate board, teaching materials from the period after 1900, old school reports, photos, pupils' work, exercise books and maps, as well as exhibits from physics and biology lessons.
A library preserves historical schoolbooks and literature on pedagogy, history and the natural sciences. From time to time, exhibitions on special themes and lectures on Bremerhaven's school history are also organized.
