About the museum

The museum opened in Dormagen on June 20, 2010. It combines two private collections: that of Helmut Dietsch, with radio, tape, cassette and phonograph equipment, and that of Volkmar Heß, with phonographs and gramophones. The house is run by a friends' association, and the city of Dormagen provides organizational support.

The rooms cover about 500 square meters, which is not enough to show both collections in full. For that reason, only a smaller part is set up as a permanent exhibition; the main room of 150 square meters is redesigned every three to six months with changing themes. The 50-square-meter foyer offers space for lectures and musical demonstrations; live concerts take place regularly on Sundays.

The museum's archive holds trade journals as well as operating and service manuals for radio and phonograph equipment.
