About the museum
Haus Tannenbusch is part of the Tannenbusch nature recreation park in the Dormagen district of Delhoven. The park developed from 1958 out of a wildlife enclosure that began with a roe deer fawn and grew through donations from many citizens and companies. Today more than 130 mammals and well over 100 waterfowl and game birds live there, mainly native species or species that were once native to the area.
In 1980 the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald (SDW, German Forest Protection Association) Dormagen opened a geopark on the grounds as a geological trail. It shows characteristic rocks of the region; at the entrance, a geological clock illustrates almost five billion years of Earth history as a 24-hour day.
In Haus Tannenbusch, a natural history exhibition presents four landscapes of Dormagen worthy of protection in their ecological context: the Stürzelberger Grind, the Wahler Berg, and the dry beech-oak forest and the ash-elm floodplain forest in the Knechtstedener Busch. A nature trail, a forest school and a forest restaurant complete the offering.
