About the museum
The former postmaster Georg Haas had been collecting evidence of Flachslanden's postal history since the 1960s and set up a small private museum for it in an outbuilding of his property. The first mention of the post in the village is for the year 1813, when a female courier received permission to go to Ansbach twice a week; in 1827 Flachslanden got its own post office.
The market municipality acquired the property in 2018 to preserve the collection. From 2022 the building was converted and renovated under the direction of the architect Rudi Hirsch, with substantial funding from the Amt für Ländliche Entwicklung Mittelfranken (Office for Rural Development of Central Franconia).
In spring 2023 the exhibits moved from the school barn into the attic of the post museum. The rooms on the ground floor remained largely as Georg Haas had furnished them. The official opening took place in October 2023. Besides the objects on postal history, a collection of furniture and tools belongs to the house as a local history museum.
