About the museum
The Puppenspielverein Kaufbeuren (puppet theater association) opened the Puppentheater-Museum in 1987 in the Spielbergerhof in Kaufbeuren's city center. The basic holdings are owed to the collector Alois Raab (1911–1989), who had gathered puppet theater figures and accessories for more than sixty years.
Since 2021 the museum has no longer been able to operate in the Spielbergerhof for organizational and financial reasons, and has moved out. Plans for a new museum in the Puppentheater Kaufbeuren, the association's venue on Wagenseilstraße, are currently in progress. No date for a reopening has been set.
To keep the collection accessible, a virtual tour has been created that can be used online at any time.
