About the museum
On November 5, 1998, seven friends founded the association “Die Ohrwürmer” with the aim of opening a radio museum. The equipment base came from the collection of Gudrun and Bernd Weith, and the municipality of Linsengericht provided rooms in the attic of the Alte Schule. In 1999 the association was renamed Radio-Museum Linsengericht; since 2000 it has been registered as an association (e. V.). After an adjoining apartment was incorporated, the museum reopened in an enlarged form in 2005.
In 2013 the Radioklinik department was created, where “radio doctors” repair devices from the museum's holdings and from visitors, and train new repairers. During a pause caused by the Corona pandemic from 2020, the entire museum was renovated and the exhibition redesigned; it officially reopened in September 2022. Visitor numbers rose so sharply in 2023 and 2024 that it is now open on every Sunday.
The exhibition is a journey through the history of broadcasting: from early detector receivers and tube radios, through a TV room, to devices from the 1950s and 1960s, supplemented by a furnished living room. A large part of the pieces is in working order and is demonstrated to visitors. The non-profit association is financed solely by membership fees and donations, and also organizes a radio swap meet (Radiobörse).
