About the museum
The Reichsstadtmuseum (Museum of the Imperial City) is housed in the "Ochsenhof" (Ox Court), a building from 1537 in the old town of Bad Windsheim. It tells the story of the former Free Imperial City of Windsheim and its residents.
The collection is run by the Historischer Verein Bad Windsheim e. V. (historical society), which looks after the museum together with the town of Bad Windsheim. The society maintains and curates the holdings and promotes the historical and archaeological research of the town's past through guided tours, excursions, excavations and lectures.
The permanent exhibition covers around 800 square meters across four floors. Chambers, parlors and workshops are furnished with rich interiors, and thematically arranged everyday objects are shown in a great variety of forms and types. Each year there are also special exhibitions and a program of events.
