About the museum

The Altes Schloss on the edge of Sugenheim was first mentioned in 1376, destroyed in 1525 and rebuilt on the same site by 1529. Its present form is largely due to alterations in the early 19th century. After a long period of vacancy, the Kube family acquired the property and restored it in keeping with its heritage status.

Already at the reopening after the 1983 renovation, part of the private toy collection could be seen, though only during special guided tours. Only after the former horse stable had been restored was the entire second floor available for a museum. In 1988 Jan and Manuela Kube opened the toy museum with four rooms to start and expanded it in the following years.

The displays include dolls, dollhouses and dollhouse kitchens, rocking horses, model trains, tin and wooden toys, tin and lead soldiers, building sets, pedal cars, games and children's uniforms, arranged thematically in display cases and rooms. An attached castle museum shows, among other things, the Renaissance Hall, the Small Knights' Hall, the house chapel and living rooms in the style of the early 19th century. In the garden stands the New Orangerie, inaugurated in 2014.
