About the museum
The Mostert family's carriage collection includes vehicles from the heyday of coachbuilders in the 19th century. It ranges from light single-horse carriages through larger hunting, travel and society carriages to the luxurious galacoupé. Highlights include a travel berline, a coupé of Countess Metternich, several phaetons and landaus, and omnibuses by the firms Hurel and Kimball of Chicago.
Most of the carriages are still roadworthy and are used for weddings, festive parades and outings. The museum is therefore part of a business that combines exhibitions, rentals and restoration.
The CoachHaus, which houses the carriage museum, occupies a 17th-century farmstead that, according to official records, was one of the first farms outside the old town walls of Rheinbach. The family has restored the buildings and partly converted them into an event venue, the CoachHaus.
