About the museum

During construction work in Remchingen in 2007, a Roman wall came to light; further investigation showed it to be part of a Roman-era house. The excavations that followed fully exposed the foundations and uncovered numerous small finds. The building stood in an area that belonged to the province of Germania Superior during the Imperial period. In 2016, further work also uncovered a Roman floor, which was later shown in traveling exhibitions as well.

In response, the local history society Heimatverein Remchingen founded a museum in 2008, which opened its doors in 2011. The excavated walls can be seen inside the museum, the Roman finds from Remchingen are presented in the glass hall, and the adjacent park contains further remains such as a section of Roman courtyard paving. The museum café doubles as a meeting place and lecture room.

The museum is run entirely by volunteers and supported by a friends' association; since February 2026, Dirk Vogeley and Sabine Stalf have been in charge. In addition to the permanent exhibition, it presents changing special exhibitions on local and regional history and offers lectures, excursions, and guided tours for groups and school classes.
