About the museum
The museum has its origins in the house of the "alte Schlosser Grimm" (old locksmith Grimm), a half-timbered house built in 1702. It was lived in until 1969 and then passed to the municipality. When a craftsman from Etzenrot needed space for his work, the mayor provided the empty house on condition that a museum be set up.
A team of four craftsmen and lay volunteers renovated the house over three years with about 3,000 hours of volunteer work. Plaster ceilings were removed, beams were exposed, and a working bread oven was rebuilt in the kitchen. The museum opened in May 1979.
Today the house is fully furnished, with a kitchen, two parlors, a spinning room, a sleeping chamber, a children's room and a storeroom, as it may have looked in the past, mostly with loans from residents of Waldbronn. Since September 1979, folk evenings have also been held here in the winter months. Behind the house stands a small bread-baking house, where bread is baked once a week. The museum is run by the association Verein Heimatstuben Waldbronn e.V.
