About the museum
The Schubartstube is located in the former bailiff's house (Amtshaus) of the Blaubeuren monastery. In this building, Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg had the poet, writer and publicist Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart arrested on January 23, 1777. The memorial recalls this event with pictures and documents.
On display are portraits, first editions of Schubart's poems, several volumes of his periodical "Deutsche Chronik" and a facsimile of the ducal arrest warrant. Another section is devoted to Eduard Mörike and his tale of the beautiful Lau ("Historie von der schönen Lau"), with silhouettes by Luise Duttenhofer and a deluxe 1872 edition with drawings by Moritz von Schwind.
A third area commemorates the long-forgotten children's book author Agnes Sapper, who at times lived in Blaubeuren.
