About the museum
The museum in Obersulm-Weiler has been expanded several times over the years and is now considered the largest of its kind in Baden-Württemberg. It occupies five buildings on Heilbronner Straße and is based on the Stiftung Brehm's collection on the cultural history of schooling.
In the old schoolhouse of 1790 and in the former inn "Sonne" from the 15th century, the school museum shows schoolrooms and classrooms, the teacher's apartment and his side jobs, and a general store from the mid-19th century. The toy museum, set up since 2010 under the motto "Pedagogy of Play," shows toys from the 19th and 20th centuries across three floors.
The "Blue House," a craftsman's and farmhouse from around 1750, is devoted to crafts, trade school, baptism, godparenthood and confirmation. The "Green House" displays journeymen's certificates from three centuries; further floors and an outdoor area are still under construction. The museum aims to show the most important learning processes in a person's life: playful, school-based and professional.
