About the museum

The museum in the basement of the Weinsberg town hall was set up in 1987 and houses the town's historical collection. Its focus is the "Weibertreu" episode of 1140: after King Conrad III of the Hohenstaufen dynasty conquered the Welf castle of Weinsberg, the women were allowed to leave and take with them whatever they could carry, and they carried out their husbands. This event has inspired poets, sculptors, draftsmen and painters for centuries.

The collection brings together over 60 exhibits: large-format paintings, including works by Nicolas Guibal and by the Dutch painter family Francke, literature, graphics, and everyday and advertising objects from the 16th to the 20th century. Further themes include the "Blutostern" (Bloody Easter) during the Peasants' War of 1525, the town's history, the physician and poet Justinus Kerner, the drawings by Albert Volk on the destruction of the town on April 12, 1945, and the estate of the painter and etcher Heinrich Seufferheld.
