About the museum
Committed members of Seligenstadt's carnival clubs founded the Fastnachtsmuseum at the end of the 1990s to preserve the history of local carnival. The first carnival parade passed through the town in 1859, and the "fifth season" remains an important part of local culture to this day. From 2004 until spring 2024, the museum was housed in the premises of the private Glaab brewery.
Since September 8, 2024, it has been on the first floor of a municipal building at Frankfurter Straße 35, next to the fire station. On roughly 185 square meters, historical documents, costumes, photos, masks and accessories such as parade plaques and gifts from prince couples document Seligenstadt's carnival from 1897 to the present.
One room is dedicated to the prince couples, the entrance area shows the work of the float builders, and changing displays present marching groups and float builders. The museum is run by the Interessengemeinschaft Seligenstädter Fastnachtsmuseum e.V.
