About the museum
The Sorbische Heimatstube (Serbska Spa) in Rohne has existed since 1972 and shows how a Sorbian farming family in the Schleife region once lived. When its old building had to make way for new plans about 200 meters away, a new home was sought. It was found on the Njepila farm, whose listed property at Dorfstraße 61 the Förderverein Njepila-Hof e. V. (friends' association), founded on May 17, 1999, wanted to preserve.
The farm dates back to 1806, when the smallholder Hanzo Njepila built it; he later became known as the first folk writer of Rohne. After the last residents died in 1985, the farm stood empty until the association took it over in 1999. By 2006 the main house, the only surviving Schrotholzhaus (solid-timber house) in Rohne, and the barn had been painstakingly reconstructed. In 2002 the historic Heimatstube was fitted out from an older building. Later a side building with toilets and a bakehouse modeled on historical examples were added; in 2020 a language trail was created at the agricultural exhibit.
Today the museum farm combines the Heimatstube with exhibition rooms on flax processing, weaving and agriculture, and maintains Sorbian customs with festivals such as the Schlachtefest (pig-slaughter feast), Easter egg painting, the farm festival and the fair (Kirmes).
